Sri Vijaya Puram, 15 March 2026:

The Andaman and Nicobar Police has issued a public advisory warning citizens about unauthorized UPI auto-payments that may result in recurring deductions from bank accounts without users being fully aware.

According to the advisory, many users unknowingly approve UPI mandates or auto-debit instructions while subscribing to online services or completing digital transactions.

Officials stated that such mandates can lead to repeated monthly deductions if users fail to regularly monitor their active payment permissions.

The police have urged citizens to review and manage their UPI mandates through the official portal of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

Steps Suggested by Police:

  • Visit: upihelp.npci.org.in
  • Verify your bank-linked mobile number using OTP
  • Review all active UPI mandates
  • Revoke any mandate you do not recognize

Authorities also advised users not to approve unknown payment requests and to regularly check bank account activity to avoid fraud or unauthorized deductions.

In case of cyber fraud, citizens can contact the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 or report incidents through the official portal: National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal

The advisory highlights increasing concerns over digital payment security and the importance of public awareness regarding online financial safety.
