New Delhi, 11 March 2026:
Raghav Chadha has raised concerns in Parliament regarding telecom companies’ so-called “monthly” prepaid recharge plans, questioning their transparency and fairness towards consumers.
Speaking on the issue, Chadha pointed out that many telecom recharge plans marketed as monthly actually provide validity for only 28 days instead of a full calendar month.
He argued that this system forces consumers to recharge 13 times in a year rather than 12, effectively increasing their annual expenditure.
Explaining the calculation, Chadha noted that 28 days multiplied by 13 recharges amounts to 364 days, resulting in users paying for an additional recharge every year.
The issue has triggered wider discussions on consumer rights, transparency in telecom pricing, and the need for clearer communication from service providers.
Chadha further stated that if telecom companies market plans as “monthly,” they should follow the actual calendar month system to ensure fairness for consumers.
