Washington, May 10, 2026:

The United States Department of Defense has released more than 170 declassified files related to unidentified flying objects (UFOs), now officially referred to as unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs), renewing global discussion surrounding decades of unexplained aerial sightings.

The document release follows ongoing transparency initiatives by US authorities regarding unexplained aerial incidents observed over several decades.

According to reports, the released files include accounts dating back to the 1940s involving civilians, commercial pilots, police officers, military personnel and astronauts. The documents reportedly contain observations of unusual aerial objects and unexplained flight behaviour, though no official confirmation regarding extraterrestrial origins has been provided.

Among the earlier accounts referenced in the files is a 1947 report from California in which a farmer allegedly witnessed a hovering object emitting sparks and flames before rapidly disappearing from sight. Other documents reportedly describe sightings involving glowing objects, flying discs and unexplained aerial movements across different parts of the United States.

One report from 1950 described an alleged incident involving police officers in Philadelphia who claimed to have observed a glowing object descending into a field. According to the document, the object reportedly appeared to disintegrate shortly after the officers approached the site.

The files also contain accounts involving aviation personnel. A 1947 report filed by pilots aboard a Pan American aircraft described cylindrical flying objects allegedly travelling at high speed near their flight path. Additional records reference observations reported by US Navy pilots and astronauts during various missions.

One notable entry relates to the 1965 Gemini 7 mission, during which astronauts Frank Borman and Jim Lovell reportedly observed unidentified objects and particles while in orbit. Internal notes attached to the files described the incident as a possible “UFO sighting.”

More recent documents reportedly include infrared footage and military pilot observations recorded during training exercises and aerial patrol operations. Several reports describe objects moving at unusual speeds or appearing stationary despite strong winds, behaviour that pilots considered inconsistent with known aircraft systems.

Despite the release of the files, US authorities have not confirmed the extraterrestrial origin of any reported phenomenon. Officials stated that the records are being made public as part of a broader transparency initiative, with additional files expected to be released gradually.

The publication of the documents has once again intensified global public interest in UFOs and unexplained aerial activity, subjects that continue to attract attention from defence agencies, researchers and governments worldwide.
