Sri Vijaya Puram:
Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC) President Ranglal Halder addressed the media at Gandhi Bhawan following a meeting with the newly appointed Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
During the press conference, Halder spoke about several issues that, according to him, were raised before the Lieutenant Governor during the meeting, including healthcare facilities, the shortage of specialist doctors and medicines, the condition of NH-4 in North and Middle Andaman, the cost of mainland medical treatment, vacant government posts and unemployment.
Healthcare Issues Raised
Halder said healthcare was among the major concerns discussed with the Lieutenant Governor.
He referred to what he described as difficulties relating to the availability of specialist doctors, medicines and medical staff in the islands.
According to Halder, the delegation placed these concerns before the Lieutenant Governor and discussed the need to address gaps in healthcare services.
NH-4 Condition in North and Middle Andaman
The condition of NH-4 in North and Middle Andaman was another major issue highlighted during the press briefing.
Halder said the road condition has been a longstanding concern for residents of the region and that the issue was discussed in detail during the meeting with the Lieutenant Governor.
He said the delegation sought attention towards the difficulties faced by residents because of the condition of the highway.
Cost of Mainland Medical Treatment
Halder also spoke about the financial difficulties faced by patients who need to travel to the mainland for medical treatment.
He said the cost involved in travelling outside the islands for treatment has become a concern for families and that the issue was brought before the Lieutenant Governor.
According to Halder, the delegation sought measures that could reduce the burden on patients and families requiring mainland medical care.
Vacant Government Posts and Unemployment
The issue of unemployment and vacant government posts was also raised.
Halder said several government departments have vacant positions and that filling these posts could provide employment opportunities for people in the islands.
He said the delegation discussed the issue with the Lieutenant Governor and sought action towards addressing vacancies.
Possibility of a Janata Darbar
Another point highlighted by Halder was the possibility of a Janata Darbar, through which members of the public could directly place their grievances before the administration.
Halder said such an initiative could provide residents with an additional avenue to communicate their concerns and seek attention to public issues.
He described the prospect of a Janata Darbar as a positive development for people who want to directly present their grievances to the administration.
Congress Says It Will Continue Raising Public Issues
During the press conference, Halder also spoke about the Congress party's stated position of continuing to raise issues concerning the public before the administration.
He said the party would continue to bring matters affecting residents of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands to the attention of the authorities.
The press conference at Gandhi Bhawan followed the delegation's interaction with the newly appointed Lieutenant Governor.
The issues discussed, as presented by Halder during the media briefing, covered several areas of public concern, including healthcare, road infrastructure, medical expenses, employment and public grievance redressal.
