MUMBAI | OCTOBER 21, 2026

Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff was allegedly not the original target of the shooters involved in the firing incident in Mumbai’s Juhu area, the Mumbai Crime Branch has said. According to a statement reported by news agency ANI, the assailants had initially planned to target another prominent Bollywood personality but changed their plan after finding that the individual’s security arrangements were too tight.

The development follows the firing incident on October 18, when shots were fired at Shroff’s car near a football ground in Juhu. The actor escaped unharmed, while reports said his driver and another person were injured.

Police Say Shooters Changed Their Target

According to the Mumbai Crime Branch’s statement reported by ANI, three alleged shooters initially intended to target a prominent Bollywood celebrity. They reportedly abandoned that plan because of the individual’s tight security and subsequently turned their attention to Shroff, whom they allegedly considered an easier target.

Several media reports have identified Salman Khan as the alleged original target, citing police sources. However, the Crime Branch’s publicly reported statement described the intended victim only as a prominent Bollywood celebrity. The specific identification of Khan should therefore be treated as a separately attributed media report rather than as part of the quoted statement itself.

Investigators are continuing to examine the alleged planning behind the attack, including the suspects’ movements and the circumstances in which Shroff became the target.

Three Suspects Arrested in Kota

Three suspects were arrested in Rajasthan’s Kota in connection with the October 18 firing. Reports said the arrests followed a search for the alleged shooters as they travelled by train. Mumbai Police subsequently took custody of the suspects for further investigation.

Investigators are examining their alleged roles in the attack, their movements before and after the shooting, and whether other individuals helped plan or execute the operation.

The allegations against the suspects have not been established through judicial proceedings.

Probe Widens to Alleged Weapons-Supply Network

The investigation has also extended to individuals suspected of helping supply weapons for the attack.

A report published by The Indian Express on October 21 said the Delhi Police Special Cell had arrested four people in an alleged weapons-supply module linked to the case. The arrests reportedly included two women and two men, with investigators examining the alleged movement of a firearm from outside Mumbai.

These arrests are distinct from the three suspects apprehended in Kota. Police are investigating the alleged roles of the additional suspects and whether the weapons-supply network was connected to the planning and execution of the firing.

The precise chain of responsibility and the extent of any wider network remain under investigation.

Investigation Continues

The firing incident has drawn attention to the safety of film-industry personalities and the use of firearms in attacks involving public figures.

Investigators are continuing to examine the alleged motive, the planning behind the shooting and the links among those arrested. While media reports have named Salman Khan as the alleged original target, the Crime Branch statement reported by ANI referred only to another prominent Bollywood celebrity.

The identity of the alleged original target, the precise chain of command and the full circumstances surrounding the attack should be understood in the context of the ongoing investigation. The allegations against the arrested individuals remain subject to the legal process.
