Shri TSG Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), has urged the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to introduce a golf cart or battery-operated vehicle service between the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) Jetty and the main road to improve accessibility for passengers.
In a letter addressed to the Secretary (Shipping) and the Director of Shipping Services, Bhasker highlighted the difficulties faced by elderly persons, patients and persons with disabilities who must cover an approximately 500-metre stretch between the jetty and the main road.
Proposal to Ease Passenger Difficulties
According to Bhasker, the distance can be particularly challenging for senior citizens, patients and people with limited mobility, especially when they are carrying heavy luggage.
He proposed introducing a golf cart or battery-operated shuttle to provide convenient transport between the jetty and the main road. The suggested service, he said, would offer relief to passengers who find the walk difficult and make access to the facility more passenger-friendly.
Appeal to Shipping Department
Bhasker appealed to the Shipping Department to consider the difficulties faced by passengers and take the necessary action at the earliest in the larger public interest.
The proposal seeks to improve access to the jetty for people who may have difficulty walking longer distances. The press release does not indicate whether the Administration has accepted the proposal or announced plans to introduce such a service.
