A 24-year-old worker from West Bengal, who had travelled to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for employment with GREF (BRTF), was reported missing after he allegedly went out of sight of his fellow workers near the Coast Guard Panipat Gate at Haddo on October 30, 2026.
According to an FIR registered at Chatham Police Station, the missing man has been identified as Mukul Sorel, son of Dider Sorel, a resident of Birbhum district in West Bengal.
The complaint was lodged by Safik Miya, who stated that he and ten other workers had travelled from Kolkata to the Andaman Islands on October 29, 2026, for work with GREF (BRTF).
Disappeared while the group was entering the premises
According to the complainant's statement recorded by police, the group reached the Coast Guard Panipat Gate at Haddo at around 9:30 AM on October 30.
While the workers were completing entry formalities to proceed inside, Mukul Sorel reportedly told his companions that he was going to urinate. The complainant stated that Sorel did not return to the group thereafter.
The workers reportedly searched for him during the day but were unable to locate him. According to the complaint, the group initially suspected that he might have gone out with friends or to consume alcohol, as the complainant claimed that Sorel had a habit of drinking and had visited the islands previously.
However, when Sorel did not return to their camp and they were unable to contact him by telephone, the complainant approached Chatham Police Station on November 1 to report his disappearance.
