A 24-year-old worker from West Bengal, Mukul Sorel, who was reported missing near Coast Guard Panipat Gate at Haddo on October 30, 2026, was found the following day by his employer and friends, bringing the search for him to an end.

According to information received by Dweep Tulika, Sorel was reportedly found in an intoxicated condition after losing his way and being unable to return to his camp.

His disappearance had been reported to Chatham Police by fellow worker Safik Miya, following which an FIR was registered on November 1, 2026, under Section 140(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

As reported earlier by Dweep Tulika, Sorel had travelled from West Bengal to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with other workers for employment with GREF (BRTF).

According to the complaint recorded in the FIR, the group had reached the Coast Guard Panipat Gate area at Haddo on the morning of October 30. Sorel reportedly went away from the group while they were completing entry formalities and did not return.

His fellow workers stated that they searched for him but could not locate him. When he neither returned to the camp nor could be contacted by phone, a missing-person complaint was lodged at Chatham Police Station on November 1.

Sorel was subsequently located by his employer and friends the following day, according to the information received by Dweep Tulika.

His discovery brought relief to those who had been searching for him after the missing-person report was filed.

The circumstances surrounding the episode highlight the importance of maintaining communication and ensuring that workers who are new to the islands can safely find their way back to their accommodation and work locations.

Dweep Tulika will update this report if further official details become available.
