Our Rights Organization (ORO) has approached the Andaman and Nicobar Administration seeking the construction or provision of a proper bus stand or passenger shelter at Caddlegunj in Ferrargunj Tehsil, citing difficulties faced by daily commuters, schoolchildren and elderly residents.
In a representation dated November 1, 2026, addressed to the Director of the Directorate of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies, ORO Chairman C. Saravanan highlighted what the organisation described as a public grievance raised by residents of Caddlegunj over the lack of an adequate passenger waiting facility.
According to the representation, office-going employees, schoolchildren, elderly persons and other commuters face inconvenience while waiting for buses, particularly during rainfall and adverse weather conditions.
The organisation also raised concerns about the safety and comfort of passengers, especially schoolchildren who have to wait for public transport without a suitable shelter.
ORO has requested the Director to instruct the concerned officials to inspect the location and take necessary steps to construct or provide a suitable bus stand or passenger shelter at the earliest.
The representation does not specify whether a passenger shelter was previously sanctioned or whether any proposal for one is currently under consideration.
The Administration's response to the request was not included in the representation.
The issue now awaits the attention of the concerned authorities, with residents seeking a basic public transport facility at Caddlegunj.
